Abstract

We report a case of corticobasal degeneration (CBD), emphasizing the importance of differential diagnosis and generating data that contribute to the diagnosis and the promotion of quality of life for other patients. We conducted interviews with family members, reviewed the medical record, and examined the literature related to CBD. The patient, a 72-year-old individual with no family history of parkinsonian syndromes, initially presented with complaints of weakness and memory loss approximately 5 years prior, with worsening symptoms in the past 1 to 2 years. At that time, cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed no significant alterations. The symptoms presented in the early stage, excluding cognitive/behavioral issues, resembled those observed in patients with Parkinson's disease. However, imaging studies in the advanced stages revealed involvement of the frontal/parietal cortex and basal ganglia regions. The differential diagnosis of CBD is challenging and essential for early treatment. The difficulty in obtaining data highlights the need for further studies on CBD.
