Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of TSH hormone alteration in the screening tests of the Presidente Prudente public hospitals and to determine the average age of the newborn at the time of exam collection and confirmation of diagnosis and treatment sequence. To this end, a descriptive cross-sectional study based on the database of the Neonatal Screening Reference Service had been conducted, with newborns who underwent the neonatal screening test by the single health system in 2017. It is possible to observe that 27.08% of the patients had the diagnosis confirmed and referred to a specialist. Most patients (61.54%) returned between 16 and 30 days after the initial dosage to confirm the result, only 23.07% returned after 61 days. The importance of diagnosing congenital hypothyroidism is justified, since early diagnosis will enable better therapeutic outcome and prognosis.
