Abstract

Disinfection of hatching eggs is an important and necessary process because at the moment of laying the eggs acquire a number of microorganisms that adhere to the shell, since most of the problems resulting from the invasion of microorganisms are due to faults in the sanitization of the eggs. The aim of the experiment was to evaluate the efficiency of different active ingredients in the disinfection of ostrich eggs on the contamination of eggs and production indices of incubation. 16 eggs divided into two experimental groups in completely randomized design were used. The active ingredients used as disinfectants are quaternary ammonium and formaldehyde. In order to detect and quantify the contamination was carried out microbiological analysis on the surface of the egg shell after disinfection. The performance parameters of incubation were evaluated using the weight of eggs at days 0 and 38 of incubation (g), rate of loss of egg weight (%) mortality rate (%) embriodiagnosis (%) and hatchability (%). The results show that there was no difference between active ingredients used as the disinfecting capacity, since the results of the microbiological test were negative for all organisms investigated in two types of disinfectants. For incubation parameters, no significant effect (p> 0.05) between treatments in any of the variables. Thus, it can be concluded that both methods are effective in disinfection of eggs, keeping them free from microbial agents during storage and incubation processes, and does not affect the incubation parameters.
